MEET OUR DIRECTOR
Amy E. Ose, Director of Vocal Music

Amy E. Ose is in her third year as the Director of Vocal Music at Marshalltown High School. She directs the Treble Choir and Concert Choir, as well as the two MHS show choirs, Encore and South Side Transit. As an alum and former staff member of the State Fair Singers and Jazz Band (presently known as Celebration Iowa), Mrs. Ose particularly enjoys working in the show choir realm.

In addition to her responsibilities to the Vocal Department, Mrs. Ose also serves as the Musical Production Assistant Director in the MHS Theatre Department. Productions have included "South Pacific" (May 2006), "Fiddler On The Roof" (December 2006) and "Oklahoma!" (December 2007).

Prior to joining the MHS staff, Mrs. Ose taught at the middle school level in Marshalltown and Fergus Falls, MN.  She has also taught at the elementary level in both Iowa and Kansas.  Beyond the world of MHS, Mrs. Ose is actively involved in her church where she directs the adult church choir and has lead a music component for confirmation students as part of their confirmation studies.

When she is not busy with her many music activities, Mrs. Ose enjoys spending time at home with family, including her Siberian Husky, Sinda and Tony the cat.  Many hours are also spent tending her flower and vegetable gardens.  Mrs. Ose also enjoys traveling and has had the opportunity to travel with her husband, David, both in and out of the country; most recently traveling to San Jose del Cabo, Mexico in July 2007 where Mrs. Ose became a certified scuba diver.

MEET THE CHOIRS

Treble Choir is a non-auditioned large ensemble comprised of 9th and 10th grade women. Treble Choir rehearses every other day and performs 4 major concerts each year. Students earn 1/4 credit for each semester of participation.

Concert Choir is a non-auditioned large ensemble which includes 11th & 12th grade women and 9th - 12th grade men. Concert Choir also meets every other day and performs 4 major concerts each year but is called upon to perform for other events throughout the year, including Baccalaureate. 1/4 credit is earned for each semester of participation in this ensemble.

In addition to performing 4 major concerts each year, both of the large ensembles participate in the State Large Group Contest in May. All members of the vocal department also participate in the State Solo/Small Ensemble Contest in April each year.

Encore is an auditioned show choir for 9th and 10th grade women. Auditions are held in the Spring of the previous school year. Members of this ensemble are also members of Treble Choir. This ensemble meets every other day during the school day and is offered for a 1/4 credit each semester.

South Side Transit is an auditioned show choir for 11th and 12th grade women and 9th - 12th grade men. Eligibility to audition for this ensemble includes membership in the Concert Choir. This ensemble meets every other day during the school day and is offered for a 1/4 credit each semester.

Membership in both Encore and South Side Transit requires a strong commitment. Beyond regular rehearsals during the school day, members are also expected to attend additional rehearsals outside of the school day as scheduled (usually on Sundays!). These ensembles also attend State Contest and other competitions that also fall on weekends.
